The main road link to Ness is the A857 from Stornoway.Approximately 25 miles (around 40 mins. by car), There is a regular bus service year round.A taxi service is also available.

Sightseeing

day at the beach There are many beautiful local beaches to choose from. A five minute drive will bring you to Port of Ness beach (shown) There is a newly built restaurant, The Boat Shed which offers take away as well as sit in. There is also an Art Gallery and a Coffee Shop. The rear of the house looks over towards the Butt with its stunning views and Breathtaking cliffs. On the way you will pass the award winning Eoropaidh Dunes park , here you will also find a Tea room. From there a five minute walk will take you to the beach.

callanish The Callanish Stones are about a forty minute drive from Ness, but are a must for  visitors. There is a shop and restaurant at the site.Local tradition explains the presence of these stones by saying that when giants of old who then lived on the island refused to be Christianed, St.Kieran turned them to stone....

For a look back at the not too distant past, a visit to the Arnol Blackhouse Museum will give you an insight into the way people lived and the coditions that shaped their everyday lives.

How to get there.

By Ferry.   From Ullapool,  Calmac Ferries operate all year long, two sailings in winter, three in the summer months. for more info. follow the link.

By Bus      City Link provides a dedicated Ferry service connection from Inverness.Timetables are designed to coincide with sailings,  follow the link for times and services.

By Air         There are many airlines who fly into the airport in Stornoway. Use a flight planner to find the flight that suits at the best prices.
